David Neil McKinney, age 73, of Springfield, MO, was born on November 15th, 1951, in Independence, MO and went to be with his Lord on January 22nd, 2025, after suffering a stroke in his home and passing at Mercy Hospital a few days later. He was born to Lawrence Dennis McKinney and Jewell (Caruthers) McKinney and lived in Kansas City, MO as a child and eventually moving to Schell City as a young teenager. David was the middle of three sons born to Dennis and Jewell. Michael the eldest, then David, and Terry the youngest. David had tremendous love and respect for his two brothers. David graduated from Shell City High School where he enjoyed playing sports and working on the family farm. David spent six years serving in the National Guard. He chose the trade of electrician as a young man and after receiving his license went on to become a master electrician and form his own electrical company in Nevada which he operated for 35 years. He met and married his wife Connie while she was attending Cottey College and spent 48 years in loving matrimony. They were best friends, partners, and mutually committed to a shared life of pointing others to Jesus.
David was a devoted and loving father to four children (Joshua, Jonathan, Rachel, & Josiah), seven grandchildren (Emily, Cameron, Aiden, Olivia, Jillian, Harrison, & Silas), and one great grandchild (Theodore). David loved each of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchild deeply and would often joke that they were lucky to have more of Connie’s genes than his. David is survived by his wife Connie and his brother Terry McKinney, as well as his children, grandchildren, great grandchild, and numerous extended family.
David spent his professional life as a business owner, a mentor, and a teacher. Although some would say that his passion was football and specifically the Kansas City Chiefs; those that knew him well knew that his true passion was Jesus. Like the satisfaction a master electrician would receive from seeing a lifeless structure come to life once power had been connected, David’s desire to see others come to know the life changing power of having a relationship with Jesus was beyond compare. David was a friend to the friendless, a man willing to give others more than he had to give, and a shelter to those in need.
The legacy of David is a clear reflection of a devoted husband, loving father, businessman, loving grandfather, great grandfather, and a man saved by God’s ever enduring and endless grace.
