David R. Cargill, 66 of Fair Grove, MO passed away Wednesday, September 12 after a long struggle with esophageal cancer. David was born April 14, 1952 to Everett and Claudine (Nale) Cargill in West Plains, MO. He attended Parkview High School in Springfield, MO and enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17. He was a Vietnam Veteran and served with Battery A, 5th Battalion, 4th Artillery, 5th Infantry Division (Mech) Camp Red Devil, Quantri Province. David married at 18 years of age on December 16, 1970, and he and Susan (Scroggins) enjoyed nearly 48 years together. David learned fabrication and welding as a trade and became a master craftsman. He truly enjoyed and took great pride in his work. Over the years, he worked at Paul Mueller, Tiger Steel, Letco, Precision Stainless, Watson Metal Masters, and T and C Stainless from which he retired in 2016. He made many friends during his more than 40-year career. David was very close to his family, loved a good time, his dogs, cars, shooting pool and being outdoors whether working, fishing or playing golf. He is preceded in death by his father, mother, and sister, Doris Borders. He is survived by his wife Susan, grandchildren Jack Jones and Winter Harris, brothers Mike Cargill, Dan (Susan) Cargill, sisters Lenna Peterson, Debbie (Brent) Ponder, a very special uncle and aunt, Bud and Marie Nale, many much loved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and his furbabies, Mooch and Lily. Memorial services will be held at Greenlawn East, Springfield, MO, Tuesday, September 18, at 12:30 with interment at 2:00 pm at Missouri Veterans Cemetery. Visitation to be held 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 17, Greenlawn East, Springfield. MO. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society.
