David William McLaughlin Jr., Col (Retired) age 75, of Humansville, Missouri, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025, in Bolivar, Missouri. David was born on June 2, 1949, in Charleston, West Virginia, to David and Marjorie (Lucas) McLaughlin. David was a 1967 graduate of Nitro High School in Nitro, West Virginia. He then attended Marshall University, graduating in 1971 with a business degree. David joined the United States Army in 1971 starting basic training in Fort Sill, Oklahoma and his first duty station was in Germany. David remained in the military throughout his life, retiring in 1998 as a Colonel for the United States Army. David married Kristine Nichols on April 27, 1974, in Springfield, Missouri. They enjoyed traveling and living in many different destinations throughout David’s career. David was an ROTC instructor at Marshall University. Following retirement, he taught ROTC at Riverside High School in Belle, West Virginia and then taught ROTC Monett High School.
David enjoyed spending time outdoors, turkey hunting and fishing, passing those traditions to his grandsons. He watched many Westerns and that fueled his urge to travel out west. David spent a lot of time riding his tractor around the farm.
David is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kristine McLaughlin; his son, Matthew McLaughlin (Lindsey); his daughter, Mary McLaughlin (Jason Allen); grandsons: Elijah and Lucas; sisters: Marilyn Gregg and Melodie Saunders; nephews: Nathan and Heath Gregg, and other family members and friends.
A visitation for David will take place on Monday, March 31, 2025, from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at Greenlawn Funeral Home East in Springfield, Missouri. A graveside service with full military honors will take place at 11:00 A.M. at the Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri, will follow the visitation.
