Dean Anthony Quillin was born a twin on September 7, 1931, in Kansas City, Missouri. At the young age of 17, he met the love of his life, and future wife, Doris June. They married in 1951 and enjoyed over seventy years of marriage. Together, they raised their two daughters: Vicki June and Tamra Elizabeth. Dean enlisted in the US Air Force, quickly being promoted to staff sergeant and serving in Top Secret intelligence at various bases in the United States, as well as in Tokyo, Japan, during the Korean War. After separating honorably from the Air Force, Dean studied at Central Technical Institute, where he received commendations for his studies. He assumed full operation of his family’s Zenith sales and service business in Kansas City, Kansas. He tirelessly provided for his family and endeared himself to the hearts of the many customers he served when performing service calls in their homes. At the root of his strong work ethic was his devotion to his Christian faith and His Savior, Jesus Christ. Dean served the Lord by working hard, loving his family well, and dedicating time to numerous ministries throughout the Kansas City metro area and in Springfield, Missouri. Notably, he served for many years on the board of the Kansas City Rescue Mission and was active in recent years with Freeway Ministries and Victory Mission, where he formed deep and lasting friendships with people from all walks of life. On July 2, 2021, Dean completed his work on Earth, and began his eternal residence with Jesus Christ. His death has left a gaping hole in the hearts of all who knew him, most especially his family, but we persevere in the legacy of faith that Dean (our sweet “Poppy”) paved, hopefully awaiting the day when we will be reunited in Heaven. Dean is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Pauline Quillin; his sister, Donna; one grandson, Tyler; and a son-in-law, Ed. He is survived by his wife, Doris; his twin sister, Dorothy; his daughters, Vicki and Tamra (Tony); five grandchildren: Melissa (Adam), Christian, Caleb, Cody, CateAnn; four great-grandchildren: Yessenia (Daniel), Jessica, Azalea, Syris; and one great-great grandchild, Giovanni.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 6th from 5-7 pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home East and the funeral will be held at Crossway Baptist Church on Wednesday, July 7th at 11 am with graveside burial services immediately following at Rivermonte Memorial Gardens in Springfield, Missouri. Dean had a heart that was deeply dedicated to helping others in life and found such joy in his role with Freeway Ministries over the years. Therefore, in lieu of flowers, donations in Dean’s memory will be lovingly received by Freeway Ministries at PO Box 8655, Springfield, MO 65803.
