Dolores Dake, 92, Springfield, Missouri went home to be with the Lord on
Monday, November 8 after several years living at The Baptist Home in Ozark.
Dolores Rosalie Cross Dake was born August 14, 1929, in Bucyrus, Missouri,
to Theodore A and Zella Mae Ballard Cross. At the age of 12 she made a public
profession of faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and lived out that
faith for the remainder of her life.
She graduated from Houston High School in 1946 and attended Southwest
Baptist College in Bolivar, Missouri. In the early 1950s she was a civilian
employee at Fort Leonard Wood. She continued to work as a secretary,
bookkeeper, and tax preparer before settling into a long career as manager of
the Missouri Baptist Credit Union from which she retired in 1994.
On September 20, 1956, she was married to J.E. Dake in Springfield, Missouri.
As a pastor’s wife, she worked alongside her husband in several Baptist
Churches. Their work took them from Missouri to Georgia and South Carolina
before returning to the Jefferson City area in the late 1970s. They remained in
Mid-Missouri until retiring to Springfield in 1994.
In retirement Dolores was a very active member of Macedonia Baptist Church
where she enjoyed the Senior Adult Choir, PEP group, Round Table and several
other committees and groups.
She enjoyed babysitting her granddaughters and playing games with her close
friends. She enjoyed spending time with people especially her family and
church family.
Survivors include two daughters, Rosalie Alcoser (Ricardo) of Ottertail, MN and
Emily Inman of Springfield, MO; three granddaughters, Rosalia Alcoser (Andy
Lin) of St. Louis, MO, RosaLin Alcoser of Edina, MN, and Arwen Inman of
Edmond, OK; one nephew Ron Murphy (Debbie); four nieces, Debra Kay Farris
(Glenn), Deborah Flores (Albert), Denise Hightower (Larry) and Diana
Crutchfield (Ken); and several great nieces and nephews.
Dolores was preceded in death by her loving husband, J.E. Dake; brother
Woodrow “Woody” Cross, his wife Joann; and her son-in-law Michael Inman.
She was also preceded in death by two half-sisters and four half-brothers.
