Donald (Don) Gene Hausman Sr was the only child of John and Edith (French) Hausman born on October 26, 1940. He died at the age of 84 on December 22, 2024.
Don grew up in Fosterburgh Illinois in the home his parents built. During his teenage years he enjoyed working on cars and talking with people from all over on his HAM radio. He graduated from Alton High School in 1958.
He married his wife of 62 years Sue (Smith) on March 22, 1962. They began their family while living in Fosterburgh. During that time Don served as a volunteer firefighter for the Fosterburgh Fire Department. Don and Sue went on to live in a variety of locations before moving back to Springfield Missouri to be near their children and grandchildren.
Don worked for Firestone before beginning his primary career with Pennzoil. He started as an oil delivery driver and over time was promoted to management. He decided to take early retirement from Pennzoil in order to move back to the Midwest. He then worked as a bus driver for Platte County Schools, oil delivery for Parker Oil, a driver for OATS and as a driver for Rehab Services for the Blind before finally retiring during the COVID outbreak.
He enjoyed deer hunting with family and friends, Sprint car racing, motorcycle trips to the North West with his wife and obtained his pilot license owning his own piper aircraft.
Don is survived by his wife Sue, sons Don Jr (Verona), Jeff (Springfield) and daughter Melissa Hollis (Springfield) and her husband Carson. His brother and sister in law Bud and Patti Smith. Nephew Dennis Smith, wife Talicia and their daughter Chloe. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren; Derek, Blake, Jordan, Heather, Alex, Brandon, Logan and Levi. Also 6 great grandchildren Rae, Jayce, Izaak, Claire, Hagan and Hilde.
Visitation will be at Greenlawn South on December 28 from 1:00-2:30. Family will speak at 2:30. The service will be casual dress since he preferred jeans over formal attire. Burial will take place at Valhalla in Godfrey Illinois on December 30.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to Rescue 66, the animal rescue that brought his beloved Gretta into his life.
