It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donna Sue Erwin, who left us peacefully on December 6, 2025, at the age of 85. Born on January 29, 1940 to Jeptha Leroy and Edith Lucille (Shannon) McCoy, Donna was a cherished soul who graced the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her.
A devoted wife to James Wayne Erwin since their marriage on January 12, 1958, Donna poured her love into her family as a wonderful mother to her children, Andy, Cathy, Scott, and Dan. She treasured the special moments spent together at the lake, creating lasting memories that will be held dear by her family.
Donna dedicated 28 years of her life as a school secretary at Weaver Elementary School, where her kindness and warmth touched the hearts of students and staff alike. Known for her incredible rolls that were the highlight of family gatherings, Donna had a talent for bringing people together over a shared meal. Her musical gift shone as she played the piano by ear, entertaining her fellow residents at The Manor at Elfindale right up until the last days of her life.
Donna found solace and peace in her garden and flower beds. Her faith was a guiding light, as she was a longtime member of Hamlin Baptist Church, where she built enduring friendships and embraced a community that uplifted her spirit.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Wayne Erwin, her son-in-law Mack Richardson, and her brother Ronald McCoy.
Donna is survived by her cherished children Andy and Carol Erwin, Cathy Richardson, Scott and Janilyn Erwin, and Dan and Lori Erwin; her grandchildren Gregg and Crystal Erwin, Cainan Erwin, Skyler and Jenean Richardson, Aubrey Plotner and Travis McConaughy, Connor Erwin, Paxton Erwin, Ashlee Erwin, and Allison Erwin; and her great-grandchildren Malcolm Erwin, Aidyn Erwin, Madilyn Erwin, Addison Plotner, and Andy and Carol’s children and grandchildren.
Her family will honor her life and legacy at a visitation on December 11, 2025, at 1:00 PM, followed by a heartfelt funeral service at 2:00 PM, both at Hamlin Baptist Church. She will then be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens following the service.
Donna will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for her unwavering love, warm spirit, and the immeasurable impact she had on the lives of those around her. Her memory will live on in the laughter of her children, the beauty of her garden, and the songs she played for all.
