Dorothy Brown, age 90, Springfield, Missouri, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 23, 2025, of natural causes.
Dorothy was born on November 25, 1934, in Norge, Oklahoma, to Cecil and Helen Ayers. She was the third child of six, which included two brothers and three sisters. Only her youngest sibling Donna Shellender survives her. She graduated from Chickasha High School, in the traditional white dress of the period, which she wore the following week for her marriage to Gene Brown, along with white gloves loaned from a friend in the wedding party. Gene and Dorothy met on a blind double date with Gene’s friend who served with him in the U.S. Air Force and Dorothy’s friend. By the end of the date, they had switched dates because Dorothy and Gene were both Baptist and having the same faith was important to them. Dorothy and Gene were long-time members of High Street Baptist Church, with Dorothy switching to Grandview Baptist when she wanted a smaller community church that some of her children and spouses attended after Gene passed away.
Dorothy and Gene were united in marriage in 1953 and honeymooned at Niagara Falls. Because Gene was in the service, they traveled their first few years of marriage from Florida to Montana. Dorothy stayed behind with her in-laws when Gene was transferred to England, and a few months later traveled to New York City to catch a ship to England. While in England, their first child Pam was born. Their marriage was blessed with eight children along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren which were the center of their lives. The eight children are Pam Hubbard, Ben “Benny”, Dan “Danny”, Julie Reynolds, Berrah “B”, Gary, Byron “Bones”, and Catherine Tinsley “Cat.”
The family would like to thank you for your sincere love and prayers during this time of grieving.
