Dorothy Kollmeyer Noennig Bass (Nov 5, 1922 — April 5, 2022)
Dorothy Irene Kollmeyer, daughter of Fred and Bertha Kollmeyer was born in Diggins, Webster Co., Missouri on November 5, 1922 and passed away April 5, 2022 at Copper Rock Village in Rogersville, Mo.
Dorothy graduated from Seymour High School in 1940 and one of her first jobs was as a switchboard operator in Springfield. She also worked in retail sales. She first married John W. Noennig in 1941 and they had three children who survived childhood.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents: Fred and Bertha (Hunholtz) Kollmeyer, and her brothers: Erwin, Walter and Louis Kollmeyer her sisters; V Seely and Esther Mueller, a son Stephen (Stevie) Noennig and a granddaughter Jill Bullock.
Dorothy is survived by her children: her son, James R. Noennig of Fordland, Mo., a daughter Judy Noennig Craft (& son-in-law Kenneth) of Cumming, Ga and daughter Terri Noennig Perez of Springfield; her six surviving grandchildren: Kimberly Maine—Baker of Springfield; Kenny Craft of Mount Pleasant, SC; Kelly Craft Hayes of Suwannee, Ga.; Daniel Perez of New Hope, Pa.; Ben Perez of Philadelphia, Pa.; Andrew Perez of Reno, Nv.; ten great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was the family matriarch whose focus in life was her family. She was a strong Christian woman, beloved by her family. She loved her childhood church, Zion Lutheran in Diggins and her family church, Messiah Lutheran in Springfield where she was actively involved in a quilting group.
Dorothy enjoyed sports all her life — she played in a bowling league and she loved to golf, playing until age 87. She was a big fan of the Lady Bears basketball team and a life-long St. Louis Cardinals fan. She also loved to dance.
Dorothy was a master seamstress whose greatest love was quilting — making over 40 in her lifetime. She sewed sequined Christmas stockings for all the grandkids. She also made everything from fancy party dresses and stuffed animals to lamp shades, pillows and draperies. She was a wonderful cook, with her specialty being pies. She was famous among the grandchildren for her coconut-cream and lemon-meringue pies.
After living on her own and driving until age 97, Dorothy became a resident of Copper Rock Village in Rogersville where she spent her final nearly two and half years. She was loved by the wonderful caregivers there and she and her family were grateful for all of them.
The Funeral will be at Greenlawn Funeral Home East at 3540 E. Seminole in Springfield, Mo. on Monday, April 11, 2022 with visitation at 1:00 PM and the service at 2:00 PM. Interment following the service will be at Maple Park Cemetery, 300 West Grand, Springfield.
