Dorothy “Dot” Gilliam (Hanshaw), of Springfield, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2024. The legacy she leaves behind is one of love, kindness, and faithfulness. Dot never met a stranger; she had an innate ability to make every interaction feel intentional and special. Everyone who crossed her path was better for it, and she will be deeply missed.
After nearly 99 years in this world, she has gone home to celebrate with her husband, Orville Gilliam; son, Jerry Gilliam; granddaughter, Tracy Harter; great-great granddaughter, Keyia Price; siblings, Bob Hanshaw, Margaret Ruberson, Florence “Toots” Vulgamott, William “Bud” Hanshaw, and their spouses. She leaves behind a very blessed family: son, Jimmie Gilliam (Theresa); daughter, Janis Hipsher (Don); daughter-in-law, Margaret Gilliam (Jerry); 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and their families, all of whom will miss her very much.
Dorothy’s family will host a memorial visitation on Saturday, September 21, 2024, from 1:00-3:00 pm, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her husband, Orville, at Howell Memorial Park Cemetery in West Plains, Missouri, on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at 1:00 pm.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Fremont assisted living community for making her feel at home and safe for the last year.
