Ed Scott of Springfield, Missouri, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, September 29, 2022. He passed away peacefully in his home with his beloved wife Donna by his side. Ed was born in Springfield, Missouri, on July 26, 1946, to parents Ralph J. and Doris B. Scott. He was the youngest of five children. He grew up in Springfield and graduated from Parkview High School in 1964. He met the love of his life, Donna Bills, in 1968. They were married on February 14, 1969, and spent 53 ½ happy years together.
Since Ed’s mom always told him he couldn’t keep a job, Ed decided to start his own business. He owned and operated Ed Scott Express for 27 years. After selling his business, Ed worked at several different jobs before retiring on December 29, 2021. One of his greatest joys after retirement was meeting a group of friends for coffee each morning at Burger King on Kearney, Seattle Roast downtown, and Panera Bread on S. Campbell.
Ed was an avid golfer and North Carolina Tarheels basketball fan. March Madness was his favorite time of year. He organized his high school class reunions for many years and loved getting together with his classmates. He was a member of the Shifters car club and he really enjoyed showing off his 1963 Chevy Biscayne every chance he got. He and Donna took their “hotrod” to McDonald’s every Friday night, as well as Steak ‘n Shake and Cruise-In in Marshfield once a month. He and Donna were long-time active members of Hamlin Baptist Church and dearly loved their church family.
Ed was a loving husband, father of three, grandfather of four, and great-grandfather of two. Ed never met a stranger, and kept his family and friends laughing with his sharp wit and ornery personality. Truly, to know him was to love him.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Doris; his step-father, George Scott; his sister JoEllen Olive; and his brother, Jim Scott. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna of the home; his daughter Michelle of Republic, MO; his son Lance and wife Colleen of Springfield MO; his son Darin and wife Kelly of Valley Park MO; four grandchildren: Allison Carey and husband Creason, Zach Scott, Bethany Scott, and Abby Scott; and two great-grandchildren: Bryce King and Maci King; sister June Sanders and husband John; brother, Darrell Scott and wife Joanie; and a host of extended family including in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ed will be greatly missed by all those who were so very fortunate to know and love him. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 pm and the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at 11:00 am. Both services will be held at Hamlin Baptist Church located at 1942 W. Farm Road 102, Springfield, MO.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed’s memory to the Hamlin Baptist Church Building Fund or to Baptist Hill Campground.
