Eddie Eugene Stroud passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 12, 2023, in his home, after a short battle with cancer. Ed was born on July 19, 1943, and had just celebrated his 80th birthday.
Ed met Shrevia Highfill at a Fair Grove Basketball game and there married on December 15, 1961, at Mt. Comfort Bible Church and they were married for almost 62 years.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents, James Ira & Faye Stroud, his sister Karolyne Maples and his son, Mark Stroud, with whom he shared a Birthday date.
Ed & Shrevia had 3 children, Robin, married to Steve Graham, Mark, married to Cindy, & Jennifer Blose; 8 Grandchildren, Shane Graham, Erica Johnston, Taylor Wilson, James Stroud, Faith Long, Jessica Stroud, Tatum Blose & Piper Blose; and 2 Great-Grandchildren Ellis Johnston & Conan Long.
Ed was an avid sportsman over the course of his life. His favorite 2 things were Fishing and Coon Hunting. He was a Sponsored Professional Bass Fisherman with the Springfield Bass Master’s Club for a number of years. He won many tournament trophies during that time. He was also a member of The Greene County Coon Hunters Association and owned several Championship Titled Dogs during his years of coon hunting. He hunted with many friends in Missouri, Oklahoma, Minnesota, and Nebraska.
He retired from the Burlington Railroad after 40 years and then took up his 2nd career and maybe his favorite, of raising Black Angus Beef Cattle. They were more pets than a job but he loved all the daily tasks of raising and watching over them. This made apparent his love for animals and caring spirit.
Ed was a member of Mt. Comfort Bible Church and attended there regularly with lots of friends & family. Several of his favorite childhood memories were shared spending the summers with his Uncle Guy & Aunt Pearl at their farm. He loved days of fishing, hunting and nights on their porch singing and eating homemade ice cream. He would attribute Uncle Guy to teaching him how to identify all the bird’s calls. His family loved it when he shared this talent and could mimic some of them.
All his accomplishments and hobbies filled his time, but he was the most passionate about his love for his Wife, Shrevia and the family they built together. Every one of them felt special and loved by him. He made his mark on each of them. How they remember him the best is doing one of his favorite things, sitting out on the porch daily and enjoying the outdoors.
Shrevia and the family request, in lieu of flowers, that you make a donation to the wonderful organization of Hospice.
