Edith grew up in Monett, MO where she remained until graduating high school. She then moved to Springfield, MO to attend St. John’s School of Practical Nursing. She dedicated 42 years of her life as a loyal, hard working employee at St. John’s Hospital and retired in 2004.

She absolutely loved gospel music. She adored her dog, Shadow. Above everything else, she loved being a Nana and loved every single minute spent with her one and only grandson, Blake.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents Herman and Edna Hemphill, older brothers Harley Hemphill and Everett Hemphill, her younger brother Kenneth Hemphill, and her husband William Mayfield.
She is survived by her daughter Barbara (Mayfield) Hawthorne and her husband Shane along with their son Blake, her sister Carolyn Haynes and her husband Wesley, her sister in-law Mary Hemphill, and a host of nieces and nephews.
