Elaine “Kay” Inmon, age 74, passed away after a long illness on September 7, 2014, at the home of her daughter, Amy, surrounded by those who love her. She was born in Springfield, MO to the late Freeman P. McCullah, Sr. and Arbaleta R. Harris McCullah.
Kay was a member of the first graduating class of Parkview High School in 1957. She was united in marriage to Wallace M. Inmon on December 29, 1957. Kay was employed at the Smith-Glynn-Callaway Clinic in February 1959 and remained with Mercy Healthcare Systems for 55 years until her retirement in 2014.
Until her health deteriorated, she was an active member of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Order of the Amaranth, Inc., and an honorary member of the Grand Cross of Color. Her greatest accomplishment in these organizations was being selected in 2004 to serve as a Grand Officer in the OES. Kay was also a charter member of 180 Church in Republic, MO, and attended as often as her health allowed.
Kay had a love for quilting and knitting. Her famous knitted dishcloths are being used in many households today! She also had a strong passion for her grandchildren and was very proud of them and their accomplishments.
Along with her parents, Kay was preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her son Richard M. Inmon and his children – Christian, Taylor, and Adam – all of Branson; her son Jeffrey M. Inmon of Republic and his children Landon and Ellie of Springfield; her daughter Amy E. (Inmon) Phillips, her husband Mitch, and their son Chase – all of Buffalo; and her brother Freeman P. McCullah, Jr. and his wife Janis of Springfield. She is also survived by four nieces, two nephews, her former daughter-in-law Julie (Osborne) Inmon; special friends, Dorothy Isdell, for always understanding, and Lisa Hatcher Rose, for always being a friend to her family and helping make her last requests come to fruition; and many other friends and former colleagues.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 11, 2014, from 6:30 to 8PM at Greenlawn East Funeral Home, Springfield. There will also be an OES service to begin at 8PM. Services will be held Friday, September 12, 2014, at 11AM at Greenlawn East Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Republic. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in her name to the Leukemia Research Foundation, 3520 Lake Avenue, Suite #202, Wilmette, IL 60091-1064.
