E. Calvin King, Jr., of Bolivar went home to be with the Lord, on Sunday, October 23, 2011 at Citizens Memorial Hospital in Bolivar, Missouri.
Calvin was born in Fort Worth, Texas on December 16, 1922.
He was drafted while attending A&M University in Texas, while studying to become a mechanical engineer. Calvin chose to be a Navy Seebee and served in the South Pacific, including New Caledonia, Guadacanal, Treasury and Stiriling Island, Saipan, and Okinawa.
After returning, from approximately 31 months of overseas duty, he married his childhood sweetheart in 1946, after becoming engaged by mail.
Calvin graduated from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth and did post graduate work.
Calvin King is survived by his wife of 65 years and 10 months and his two children, a daughter, Delta Cavner and a son, Dexter, 7 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
In a statement about his father, his son stated that he was very talented, and that he transcended all norms in knowledge skills and abilities and influenced not only him, but his grandchildren to pursue worthy goals.
Visitation will be held Thursday, October 27, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Pitts Chapel in Bolivar . Burial will be on Friday, October 28, in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, in Springfield, MO.
