Freda Mae Atwell was born on October 3, 1928 in Marshfield, Missouri. She was the daughter of Fred and Nellie Hubbell. Freda was a graduate of Springfield (Central) High School. She worked for many years as a switchboard operator for several companies, including Bell Telephone. Freda was of the Baptist faith, throughout her life she led others to Christ. Even while a resident at a nursing home she often told her caregivers about Jesus and ask if they were saved.
Freda married Herbert Atwell who truly was the love of her life. This was a mutual love and one you might read about in a romance novel. They shared a deep love, commitment and devotion to one another. Even at age 95 they were holding hands, kissing and telling each other I love you. Caregivers were often in awe of the love they could see between them. When someone ask Freda how they could have a marriage like that she told them in addition to physical love to make time for one another, listening, and showing respect for each other but the most important is having Christ in their marriage. Freda was outgoing and enjoyed music, dancing and shopping for a beautiful outfit along with a love for her fur babies.
On June 23rd Freda departed this life and joined her Savior in heaven. She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband, Herbert, other relatives, Dwayne Letterman ( Helen) their daughter Cheri Herrera ( Joe Don), Paula Letterman, her sons, Lance (Amy) Heath, Chad, John (Carrie) Letterman along with their children; Cousins-in-laws, Margaret Ann Fields and Kay Brooks. She was preceded in death by her parents, a special cousin, Mary Lou Barnett and Ike Letterman.
A private graveside service is planned with internment at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to
