Gayla Leigh Douglas (Spellman), age 67, of Springfield, Missouri, left this world to meet her Lord and Savior on May 13, 2025. Gayla was the first child of Max Spellman and Dortha (Dottie) Spellman born on January 27, 1958, in Springfield, MO. She was an avid runner and softball player, known for stealing bases when the game was close and her coach needed her. At the age of 52, Gayla completed her first half marathon, and went on to complete two full marathons; she found joy running with her daughters and for various charities. She found purpose volunteering for the Children’s Miracle Network for over 20 years, getting to know many families and children, answering phones at telethons, and at one point holding a position on their board. For over 40 years, Gayla worked at various banks in Springfield, and was well known for her warm, friendly demeanor and boisterous laugh that echoed for all to hear.
Gayla was preceded in death by her mother, Dottie Spellman. She is survived by her husband Don Douglas; father Max Spellman; daughter Keri Bosio (Cranor); daughter McKenzie Corsolini (Cranor); granddaughters Ava Bosio and Hanna Parent; sister Lisa Spellman; brother Ronald (Ronnie) Spellman; many nieces and nephews, cousins, and wonderful friends from the banking community and beyond.
The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the caregivers and staff at Lawrence County Manor.
A visitation for Gayla will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at Hamlin Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri, followed by the service at 12:00 PM. Her final resting place will be White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Springfield, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution to the family’s fund will be applied toward incurred medical and funeral expenses, with a portion of proceeds donated to the Children’s Miracle Network and the Alzheimer’s Association. Funds may be gifted here.
Services are being provided by Greenlawn Funeral Home North.
