It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of General Washington Goings, aged 91, who departed this life on August 28, 2025, in Springfield, Missouri. Born on March 16, 1934, in Saint Charles, South Carolina, General was the son of Phillip Goings and Rena Timmons. He spent his formative years in a town that nurtured his strong values and work ethic, which he carried throughout his life.
General proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years, a commitment that reflected his dedication to his country. On May 2, 1954, he married his beloved Wanda Earlene Blazor in Topeka, Kansas, and they shared 32 wonderful years together before her passing. Together, they welcomed four children into their lives: Ladena Faye, Eva Lynett, Deborah Lynn, and Charles Melvin, who have all inherited General’s warmth, kindness, and love for life.
In his professional life, General devoted himself to the construction industry as a concrete layer, showcasing his talent and determination in every project he undertook. He was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend a helping hand to friends and family alike.
A devoted family man, General was blessed with six grandchildren—Nicholas, Nolan, Matthew, Jennifer, Stephen, and Andre—and 12 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life. He cherished spending time with his family, often enjoying fishing trips and cheering for his favorite baseball teams.
His family will remember him fondly for his gentle spirit, infectious laughter, and unwavering support. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
Funeral services for General Washington Goings will take place on September 8, 2025. Visitation will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home North from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, followed by a burial ceremony at Marshfield Cemetery at 2:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate his remarkable life as they pay their respects and share cherished memories.
