George Benton Cron, Jr., 92, went to his heavenly home on February 13, 2023. George was born in
Los Angeles, California, on March 23, 1930, to George Benton Cron, Sr., and Martha (Stull) Cron. On August 12, 1950, he was united in marriage to Lottiean Byrd in Los Angeles.
George was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers (Norman, Neal, Paul, and Jim), one sister (Naomi), and one son-in-law, Bob Wright.
George is survived by his wife of 72 years, Lottiean, his children, George (Debbie) Cron of Springfield, MO, Judy (Eddie) Dykes of Stockton, MO, David (Shirley) Cron of Springfield, MO, and Quentin Cron of Cape Fair, MO. He was blessed with 8 grandchildren: Robert (Sonya) Wright, Preston (Jessie) Wright, Josh (James) Cron, Caleb Cron, Aryal Hughey, Shelby (Ben) Boyd, Manny Hernandez ,and Aaron Cron as well as 3 great-grandchildren: Wyatt Wright, Makenzie Wright and Mallory Wright.
George possessed an entrepreneurial spirit and owned several businesses throughout his life. His last job was with Trailiner where he proudly held the position of trainer/truck driver liaison. George was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and hunting trips to Colorado. He was creative and inventive. He loved to buy, sell and trade and was drawn to things that were just a little outside the norm. George was always looking for adventure. A small sample of his thrill-seeking exploits included racing stock cars at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds, building dune buggies, and impulsively purchasing a hovercraft.
Visitation will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home East, 3540 E Seminole St., Springfield, MO, on February 20, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at Hazelwood Cemetery, 1642 E. Seminole St., Springfield, MO, on February 21, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.
