George Daniel Wissinger was born March 6, 1936 at Brixey, MO to Fred Edward and Lena Wissinger. After a battle with Parkinsons and many other health problems, he passed from this life to his eternal home on December 28th, 2017 in Irving, TX at the age of 81 years.
He is preceded in death by his father, mother, and his sister, Ina May Booth. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 57 years, Thelma, his children; Jeffrey of Kansas City, MO, Janet Crouch (Jim) of Irving, TX, and Julie Stephens (Tracy) of College Grove, TN; his sister, Veta King, his brother John and sister-in-law Janice; 6 grandchildren (who affectionately knew him as “Danpa”); Lindsay Crouch Bowen (Dan), Stuart Crouch, Monica Crouch Carr (Benjamin), Bailey Stephens, Carter Stephens, and Sterling Stephens; 5 great grandchildren; Gavin and Eloise Carr, Violet, Levi and Millie Bowen; nephews, nieces, and many beloved friends.
In his teens, his family moved to Lebanon, MO where he graduated from Lebanon High School in 1955. “Dan”, as he was known by his friends and family, worked in truck driving from his very early teens where he began traveling with his dad and later had his own truck and drove on his own. He also worked as a purchasing agent for Rich Line boat manufacturing in Richland, MO. At one point, Rich Line was planning to open a plant in Florida and wanted to send Dan to Florida to oversee the plant. Dan bought a suitcase to move down, but the company changed their plans. At the age of 21, Dan did basic training for the military in San Antonio, TX and then was in the National Guard for a short time. On February 19, 1960, he married the love of his life, Thelma Lindsay of Lebanon, MO. They moved to Springfield to make their home. During their married years, he worked in banking and insurance sales.
Dan was involved in preaching the gospel most of his life whether it was in the worship assembly or with individuals. He served as an Elder of the Mission Hills Church of Christ for many years. In his later years, He worked with 3 churches of Christ at Eldon, Montreal and Brumley, MO. He held many Bible studies discipling Christians and baptizing people into Christ. Health issues forced him to retire a few years ago.
Dan was known for his outgoing, loving spirit. He was kind to everyone and put his family and others before himself. He was a humble and gentle man.
He lived most of life preparing for the day he would meet his loving Savior. He will be greatly missed by the family he loved so much.
The family would like to thank our personal friend, Dr. Tammie Rogers for all her help and advice in caring for both Dan and Thelma during the last few months.
Services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East, 3540 E. Seminole, Springfield, Missouri.
Burial will be in Rivermonte Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, January 2, 2018 in the funeral home.
