George Junior Wright passed from this earth on December 20, 2024, at the age of 93. He died peacefully in his home in Springfield, Missouri. George was born to parents Gladys (Lemons) and George William Wright on October 27, 1931, in McCracken, Missouri. George graduated from Senior High School in Springfield in 1949. George and Norma Jean Davenport were married on February 14, 1951, in Springfield Missouri. George and Norma were married almost 62 years before Norma’s untimely passing on January 11, 2013. They had five children: Gary, Cara, Lisa, Dana, and David.
George worked for Trailmobile for 11 years, followed by a 28-year career in life insurance with the Prudential. After his family, what George loved best was hunting, fishing, and canoeing in the Ozark woods and rivers. Following retirement, George taught himself taxidermy, and later became a wildlife artist concentrating mostly on fish and birds. His sculptures, carved in wood, have been sold to collectors nationwide. In his later life, George added painting to his set of artistic endeavors. George will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, and his devotion to his family.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Norma; parents, George William Wright and Gladys (Lemons) Wright; and two sisters, Dorothea Anderson and Joyce Shank. Survivors include his companion, Elaine Thiessen; a sister, Janice Wheat; five children; seven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 5, 2024, from 2:00-4:00 pm, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield. Following a private ceremony, George will be laid to rest next to his wife, Norma, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
