George Warren Hawley, age 83, of Springfield, Missouri, peacefully passed away in his home surrounded by his loved ones on January 30, 2024. He was born on the family farm in Foose, Missouri, to Marvin and Georgia (Gillham) Hawley on January 29, 1941.
Warren, as he was often known, lived an adventurous life. He loved to travel and spent time in various parts of the United States and the world to admire all its beauty. Warren received his bachelor’s degree from Missouri State University in computer science. He went on to work for various companies as a computer programmer and later as a consultant.
On June 18, 1988, he was united in marriage to Barbara Addison, whom he met through his best friend. They built a life together travelling, farming, and attending Missouri State University basketball and volleyball games. Warren was an avid fan and supported the woman’s volleyball team by being part of the Booster Club. He was a talented singer and performed with his brothers and the Jefferson City Symphony.
Warren will be remembered for his quick wit and joking personality. He will also be remembered for being an honest, trustworthy friend to many. He will be sorely missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and son, John David Hawley.
Warren leaves behind his wife of 36 years, Barbara; a grandson, Chris; a granddaughter, Mary Beth; a great-granddaughter, Annabell; his nephews and nieces, Laura Hawley, Bethany Stephenson (Clint), Mark Hawley, and Sharman Clay (Walter), Shelley Wood (Gary), and Linda Sartin; numerous great nephews and nieces; other family members and friends.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 2:00-3:00 pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home, North. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm also in the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Springfield, Missouri immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Springfield Alzheimer’s Association, 901 E St Louis St Ste. 702, Springfield, MO 65806.
