Sgt. Major (Ret.) Gerald Wayne Tallant, 90, of Springfield passed away on May 26, 2017.
Gerald was born March 27, 1927 in Gravette, AR to Jack and Ruth Tallant.
In 1944 Gerald joined the Merchant Marines and in 1946 joined the United States Army where he served and retired as Sargent Major after 30 years of service to his country. He later worked at the Federal Building and United States Post Office in Harrison, AR where he retired in 1990. He was also a member of the Carson City, NV Masonic Lodge.
In 1955 Gerald married Barbara Johnson in Meadville, MO.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 62 years Barbara, their 2 children, son Gerald Anthony Tallant and daughter Theresa Tallant Collins and husband Micah; grandchildren Jessica Tallant Kidd, David, Becca, Robby, Aylson and Kim Tallant and Landon and Lauren Collins.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Lawrence Edward Thompson and a daughter-in-law Carol Tallant.
Service for Gerald will be at 10:00 am Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Greenlawn Funeral Home East. Entombment with full military honors will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday May 31, 2017 in the funeral home.
