Glenn Allen Cunningham, 93, of Nixa, Missouri, departed his earthly life to be with his Lord and loved ones on October 24, 2023. He was born to Ada Eulalia (Eula) Robb Cunningham and Windsor William Cunningham on September 25, 1930. Glenn was raised on a farm and attended school in Rogersville, Missouri. He was a naturally talented horseman and once rode his mule, Charlie, down the Grand Canyon. He traveled many mountain and local trails on Dan, his Palomino Fox Trotter. A perfect day for Glenn was trail riding or fishing, and some days, both. A certified ASME welder, he retired from Dayco as Head Maintenance. After retirement, he became a licensed fishing guide and enjoyed many hours on the lake.
Glenn was a founding member of the Finley River Cowboy Church Board and was very proud of this loving church and its commitment to the Word of God. Most of all, he loved his family and enjoyed teasing his grandchildren and great grandchildren every opportunity he could. His sharp wit and humor were admired by those who knew him.
He was united in marriage to Ruby Jeanette Newberry on October 29, 1966. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage together. Survivors include Ruby Cunningham of Nixa, MO, brothers Lloyd Eugene Cunningham of Columbia, MO and Donnie L. Cunningham and wife Alba of Galena, MO and sister-in-law Mary Sue (Merle) Cunningham of McCordsville, Indiana. Surviving children include Glenna Vanderhoof of Springfield, MO, Jean Kilburn and husband Jim of Springfield, MO, Sandy Gold of Walnut Grove, MO, Allen Cunningham of Mountain Grove, MO, Mark Newberry of Springfield, MO, Paula Reynolds and husband Jack of Sparta, MO, and Sandy Zimmerman and husband Mark of Ozark, MO, and his ‘adopted’ daughter Brenda Gold Rantz of Nixa, MO. Additionally, he is survived by 13 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter, several nephews, nieces, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Windsor Wayne Cunningham and Merle Dean Cunningham, sister-in-law Katherine (Eugene) Cunningham, wife LaVerne Marie McCowan Cunningham, daughter Debbie Emerson, son-in-law Denny Gold and grandson Nathan Hunter Gold.
Services will be under the care of Greenlawn South of Springfield, MO. Graveside service, open to friends and family, will be Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Shiloh Cemetery, 464 Shiloh Road, Rogersville, MO 65742. Pastor Mark Zimmerman of Sac River Cowboy Church will officiate, along with a tribute presented by Jon Gold. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the ALS Society in memory of son-in-law Denny Gold.
