Glenn Dale Walton, born August 26, 1936, in Lincoln, Arkansas, to Virgil and Lina Walton, departed this earthly life on September 10, 2023, at the age of 87. His family looks forward to seeing him again, relaxing in his favorite recliner in his heavenly mansion.

On November 17, 1953, at the age of 17, Glenn enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he completed several years of training in what became his life-long career as an aircraft mechanic. Glenn served during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Texas, Oklahoma, Alaska, Japan, Guam, Florida, and Thailand. Glenn retired from the Air Force on May 9, 1973, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and immediately went to work for them as a civilian aircraft mechanic at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma. He retired once again in 1998 and began enjoying time spent fishing, golfing, gardening, and spoiling his grandkids.

In 1956, Glenn and a carload of his buddies decided to pick on a carload of young ladies enjoying sodas at a local drive-in in Vernon, Texas, by throwing ice at them. Little did he know that one of those young ladies would melt his heart along with the ice. A few months later, on August 3, 1956, Glenn married the sassy Texan, Elma Louise Walton, and their happily ever after began, although he was a bit overwhelmed by the 54 pairs of shoes she owned. In April of 1967, the two lovebirds welcomed their one and only daughter, Tina Louise Walton, and began a lifetime of loving, supporting and spoiling her. Tina never doubted one minute that she had the best of the best of parents.

Glenn is survived and missed by his loving wife, Elma Louise (Mayo) of 70 years. Forever cherished and remembered by his daughter, Tina and her s/o, Ed McCune; his three grandchildren, Madison Barletta with husband Sean, Bailey Howery and husband Jared, and Samuel Martin and s/o Sara O’Malley, and Glenn’s pride and joy great-granddaughter, Sadie Grace Howery. Glenn was loved and admired by many cousins, nieces, and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Glenn was predeceased by his father, Virgil; his mother, Lina; his sisters, Louetta, Marietta, Fern, and Linda; his brothers, Earl, and Leon.

Glenn spent his life loving and serving three things most important to him: God, his family, and his country. On April 23, 1978, Glenn was ordained as a Deacon at Calvary Baptist Church in Enid, Oklahoma. He took this position very seriously and spent his life serving others. He did everything with honesty and integrity. He had very strong values and was well-liked by everyone, mostly due to his gentle kindness. Glenn had incredible patience and always made time to help others. He would say it all comes back to us. His big, strong hugs and mischievous smile will be greatly missed.

His legacy will continue forever, reminding us that we control our attitudes. We choose to live a life of meaningful acts of love and service, leaving the lingering fragrance of Christ in our wake.

He took an active role in the lives of his grandchildren. You could find him planting flowers, catching tadpoles, or roping a frog with his grandkids in his backyard in Enid. He taught them the best way to carve a jack-o-lantern and that you don’t have to hook a worm to catch a fish if you have Wheatie balls. Glenn and Louise sold their home of 30+ years in Oklahoma and moved to Cimarron, Kansas, to be part of Madison, Bailey, and Sam’s lives. They attended school plays, field trips, basketball games, football games, volleyball games, T-ball games, dance recitals, piano recitals, mutton busting, and hockey games. They enjoyed attending church with them and the many special holidays they spent together. Glenn always took the time to help them with anything they needed help with, patiently. In June 2010, Glenn and Louise sold their home again and moved with the family to Bolivar, Missouri, where they continued to love and support them above and beyond.

There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we are to the team of people who we’ve come to consider extended family, St. Croix Hospice, Mandalin Welch (Pops adored picking on you and was so grateful for the extra love you showed), and our amazing friends and family who were there with continuous support and love for Glenn and his family.

Services will be held at Pitts Chapel on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 12 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM in the chapel. Interment will be at Missouri Veterans Cemetery, in Springfield, Missouri, at 1:00 PM following the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Pitts Chapel, Bolivar, Missouri.
