Guy Melvin Wilson, 82, Springfield, MO. passed away Sunday, December 19, 2021, in his home, after a long illness, surrounded by his family. Guy Melvin Wilson, 82, Springfield, MO. passed away Sunday, December 19, 2021, in his home, after a long illness, surrounded by his family. He was born in Brookline, Missouri on May 6, 1939, to Lee and Mary (Claire) Wilson. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Sue Byrd on December 24, 1957, at her parents’ home.
Guy was a member of Sunset Church of Christ and he was a retired Scale Inspector for Burlington Northern Railroad, retiring after 43 years. Guy loved his Lord and enjoyed reading his Bible every day, he was a very faithful Christian man. He was a past deacon and treasurer for the Kansas Expressway Church of Christ. He also enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors. He loved shooting Skeet and lake fishing at his home on Table Rock Lake. He also loved flowers and watching his tomato patch grow.
Guy kept up his tough fight against cancer and was an example to all during his lengthy illness. The family would like to thank Dr. Srikant Nannapaneni for his kindness and great care. He was blessed during his illness by seeing his first great-grand daughter Olivia, who he affectionately called “Sweet Baby O”.
Guy was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, David Lee Wilson. He is survived by his wife Evelyn, daughter: Susan Hayden and her husband, Jack, two sons: Greg Wilson and his wife Dorothy and Gary Wilson, four grandchildren: Shawn and Whitney Hayden, Christopher and Ariel Hayden, Allison Hayden and her fiancée, Kyle Correa and Emily Wilson and her fiancée Kern Bien-Aime, great-grand daughter: Olivia Lauren Hayden, his sister, Ada Dean and a niece Mary Jean Keller.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. December 23, 2021, at Greenlawn Funeral Home South, with burial to follow in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to Fair Haven Children’s Home, American Cancer Society or to the National Kidney Foundation.
The family requests that those attending protect themselves by wearing masks.
