Gwendolyn (Gwen) Louise Hoppe Northington

Gwen was born on June 25, 1921 at home in Clinton, Missouri to Ernest James and Hallie Gwendolyn Martin Hoppe.  Gwen went home to be with The Lord on October 17, 2023 in Springfield, Missouri after a long full life of 102 years.  Gwen was a long time member of National Heights Baptist Church in Springfield.

In 1938, Gwen married Harold Kenneth Northington.  They had 3 children: Martha, Ken, and Doug.  Gwen has 6 grandchildren: John David Ivie, Scott Ivie, Lori Northington Bergeron, Douglas Northington, Crystal Northington Johnson, Ashley Northington Frick.  Gwen has 12 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Gwen was preceded in death by her husband Harold, 2 brothers, Ernest James and Robert Martin Hoppe, and her grandson, Douglas Craig Northington.  She is survived by her sister, Jeanne Richmond of Coeur D’Alene, Idaho, her daughter and son-in-law, Martha and John Ivie of Irving, Texas, her son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Carolyn Northington of Springfield, Missouri, and her son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Janice Northington of El Cajon, California.

Gwen worked as a receptionist at City Utilities for 20 years.  Then she helped start an auxiliary for the Boys Ranch and the Baptist Home in Ozark.  Gwen’s favorite things to do were gardening and looking at flower and seed catalogs.
