Harold Stratton, age 84, of Stilwell, Kansas, passed away on May 25, 2024, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Harold was born to Paul John Stratton and Ruby Marie Boehme on February 12, 1940, in Springfield, Missouri. He was raised in Springfield and graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1959. Harold was united in marriage to Nona Johnston on February 14, 1987, in Raytown, Missouri. Harold and Nona shared 30 years of marriage before Harold’s untimely passing on May 25, 2024. Harold proudly served in the United States Navy for six years before his honorable discharge on March 16, 1964.
For 33 years, Harold was employed as an engineering consultant in the Power Division at Burns and McDonnell Engineers of Kansas City. When not working, Harold had many interests and pastimes including working in the yard, fixing anything and everything, traveling, and sports. Nothing, however, brought him more fulfillment than watching his grandkids in their sports and activities. Harold will be remembered as smart, funny, loyal, and loving.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ruby Stratton; sister, Ailene Carlson; and sister, Polly Stratton. He is survived by his wife, Nona Johnston Stratton; daughter, Jennifer Greenlee and her husband, Zach; daughter, Cynthia Moran and her husband, Tim; grandchildren: Makayla and Jake Greenlee and Sarah and Ryan Moran; and sister, Nadyne Leidy. Harold is also survived by his loyal companion, Chase, a one-of-a-kind Sheltie.
A visitation for Harold will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024, 1:00 pm, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield. Harold’s funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 2:00 pm., with burial to follow at Bass Chapel Cemetery near Strafford. A special Celebration of Life tribute will be hosted by Harold’s family at a later date.
