Herman Eugene Rantz, 92, of Springfield, MO, passed away on September 22, 2022. Son of Jake and Viola Rantz. Eugene grew up in Galena, MO, and attended the Eisenhower Pentecostal Church, where he found his salvation in Christ and was baptized in James River.
Gene is survived by his sister, Marylou McCollough; his wife, Judith Rantz (Tolbert); Three daughters, Sharron Gritzo, Patty Kaegel, Melissa Herman and son-in-law, Stewart Herman; 7 grandchildren, Richard Gritzo, Jedediah Gritzo, Joshua Gritzo, Brittney Kaegel, Lewie Kaegel, Christopher Herman, and Katie Herman. Eugene was further blessed with 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Herman was a veteran of the Korean war, and some of his honors include the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Campaign Stars, the United Nations Service Medal, the OS Service Bar, and a Combat Infantry Badge.
Upon his return from service, he would start his legacy by marrying his love, Judith, with who he would share almost 70 years of devotion. Herman was a hard-working provider, using his talents of carpentry and finishing work in many of the beautiful homes in Springfield. After a brief retirement, he took up working at Springfield Public Schools and McDonald’s in the position of maintenance. Upon his final retirement, Herman spent his remaining years tinkering in his yard and watching his favorite westerns, however, he most enjoyed his time with his grandchildren and their activities.
Our Patriarch had a love of collecting and a big servant’s heart, giving his time and energy to meet the needs of those he loved.
Husband, dad, grandpa, friend, you will be missed greatly. Rest now your work is finished here.
