Hugh Archibald Mason, age 88, went to join the Lord on Sunday, October 9, 2022, after extended health struggles.
Hugh was preceded in death by his first wife Karen Ann Kruse Mason, his parents Arthur Kelly Mason Sr, and Chellie Jewel Ezzell Mason, two brothers Arthur Kelly Mason Jr. and Homer L. Mason, two sisters Margaret Chellie Mason and Virginia D. Mason Hixon. His is survived by his loving wife Marlene Rupp Mason, brother Rom A. Mason and sister Mary Ann Mason Henline, children Deborah Ann Mason Wuthnow (Mark), David Hugh Mason (Lisa), and Amy Lorraine Mason Hunter (Craig), stepchildren Tim Alan Schmucker, Joy Lynn Smith, Craig David Schmucker and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Hugh was an incredibly determined, strong man who put himself through college. He graduated in 1956 with a degree in Business Administration and a minor in Marketing from The University of North Carolina. After graduation, he was hired by Crawford & Company Insurance where he continued to work for 34 years with a break to serve in the army for 2 years as a Chaplin’s assistant at Fort McClellan, AL.
He was a generous and giving man, helping his siblings and children in many ways. He loved singing, playing golf, water skiing, billiards, table tennis (not ping pong!) and poker / bridge. He sang in choir for over 60 years and regularly played duplicate bridge up to the very end. In 1992, he founded the Ozark Table Tennis Club which has continued to grow and was a source of great pride. He loved spending time on Table Rock Lake and spent many a summer vacation water skiing at the Lake of the Ozarks. He had a great love of travel and enjoyed taking numerous cruises and spending time in Branson and Lake of the Ozarks with his wife Marlene.
He loved to brighten the day of those he met, even if it meant embarrassing his wife and children by breaking out in song, typically ‘You are my Sunshine’. He always worked hard, did his best, and will be missed by many.
