Isaac L. “Sonny” Thomas of Springfield, Missouri passed away on Sunday January 15, 2023, at the age of 78. Sonny died peacefully with his beloved wife Anna Lou, their children, and other family members by his side.

Isaac was born in Lebanon, Missouri on January 13, 1945, to father Isaac Howell Thomas and mother Virginia Gladys Black-Thomas (Pope). The only boy out of the six children, Isaac paused his formal education to begin working in order to help support his family. His work ethic and desire to take care of his family served him well throughout his life.  Later he was able to complete his education by obtaining his GED.

He was introduced to the love of his life Anna Lou Lumley by her sister Shirley Lumley Trogdon at church. They were married on December 6, 1963, and spent 59 years building a life together.  Sonny always loved to participate at church.  He would often play the piano and lead others in worship with a joyful heart.  The love of God was evident from the moment you met him, and because of that love, he touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He also enjoyed putting a personal touch on Birthday and Anniversary cards by composing a poem for the blessed recipient.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Florene Dickinson, Velma Percival, Barbara Pine, and Patty Asbell; and his grandson Phillip Thomas. He is survived by his sister Virginia May Waterworth of Lebanon, MO; wife Anna Lou Thomas of Springfield, MO; children Wesley (Bonnie) Thomas of Willard, MO; Michael (Shelly) Thomas of Marshfield, MO; Scott (Sheri) Thomas of Walnut Grove, MO and Shawn (Aron) Peterson of Nixa, MO; as well as 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandson, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A visitation for Sonny is planned for Monday, January 23, 2023, from 10 am to 11 am at Greenlawn Funeral Home North at 3506 North National, Springfield, Missouri with the funeral immediately following at 11 am. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery.
