James Albert Sage, 86, Springfield, MO. passed away Thursday, January 27, 2022, after a long illness. James was born in Brooklyn, New York, on July 12, 1935, to Joseph and Marion (Fengler) Sage. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a proud United States Air-Force veteran, serving in the Vietnam War and retiring honorably after 20 years of service to his country. On May 3, 2003, he was united in marriage to Barbara Alberta Nicoll. Jim loved rebuilding cars and received recognition for his work on them. After retiring from the Air-Force, in Minot, North Dakota, Jim managed North Hill Bowl and Pro Shop. Jim also worked for HC Smith decommissioning Missile Silos in Montana and North Dakota. In 1978 Jim settled in Knob Knoster, MO where he owned and operated Jim’s small engine repair that grew into Jim’s Auto for 10 years.
James was preceded in death by his first wife, Elsie Katharina Sage, his parents, Joseph and Marion Sage, his brothers, Joseph Gerard Sage and William Sage, and his sister, Mary Patricia Sage. James is survived by his wife, Barbara, his children: Kathy Sage Willis (Vann) and James W. Sage (Christine), his step-children: Ronald Nicoll (Rachel), Dennis Nicoll (Deborah), Phillip Nicoll, Penni Cox (Dwight), and Mark Nicoll his grandchildren: Bryan Willis, Kevan Willis, and Cole Sage, his step-grandchildren: Nichelle Nicoll, Christopher Nicoll, Stephany Nicoll, Tyler Nicoll, Nate Nicoll, Natalia Nicoll, David Cox, Brandon Cox, Ryan Cox, and Kristen Cox. He is also survived by his brother: Kenneth Johnsen, his sisters: Alice Sage and Marion Sage.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at The LDS Church: 1357 South Ingram Mill Road, Springfield, MO. Visitation will be one hour before services, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. James will be buried beside his first wife, Elsie, at noon Thursday, February 3, 2022, at The Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO.
