James (Ed) Edgar Stump
October 6, 1914-June 1, 2011
Born on a farm near Everton, Missouri in 1914. Ed’s father was struck by lightning and killed when Ed was 4 years old. He was the oldest of three children. His sister was Emma Mae Stump. His younger brother was Kenneth Stump. Both siblings passed away. Ed has no living relatives. Ed was baptized in a river near Golden City and was very active in Sunday school and church. Ed was raised in Golden City, Missouri by his mother and step-father. Ed graduated from high school at Golden City. Ed worked two or three jobs (operated a mobile movie theatre and worked at a local hardware store). Ed and Marian met at FBC, Springfield, BSU, banquet for college students and began to date. Ed worked on sonar for locating oil. That took him out to Fresno, CA. WWII came along and Ed enlisted in the Navy. Marian went out to California to be with Ed. In March 1942 they married at Reno, Nevada. They stayed in San Francisco. Ed was in the Navy from 1941-1947. He went to a business school (La Salle Business School) and worked at a wholesale electronic company. On the side he worked in real estate and received his broker’s license. He worked for a real estate company in San Francisco and lived in Marin County. Marian and Ed retired in 1977 at the same time. On vacations they would go south to Palm Springs. They committed to be “Snow Birds” when they retired. They purchased a motor home and traveled for 25 years. Membership club called Thousand Trails. They kept their home in Marin. Ed and Marian never had children. While in Marin County they were active members in FBC, San Francisco. They came back to Springfield and Golden City every summer to visit their parents and friends. In 2000, Ed and Marian came to Springfield and looked for a home. They sold their home in Marin and moved to Springfield in March 2001. Ed and Marian have been members at Second Baptist Church since 2001. Ed passed away June 1, 2011.
A memorial service will be held at 11:15 am, Monday, June 6, 2011 at Second Baptist Church with a visitation prior to the service beginning at 10:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Second Baptist Church Foundation for the Future.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home South.
