James “Jim” F. Steury passed away in his home on September 13, 2014 surrounded by family. Jim was born to Fred and Grace Steury of Springfield, MO on May 22, 1932, the youngest of 9 children. He worked the family farm until he graduated from Strafford High School in 1950. While at Strafford, Jim met his beloved wife Carolyn Sue Bumgarner. They were married in 1952 in Biloxi, Mississippi, after Jim enlisted in the US Air Force. Jim’s military career spanned 26 years and two wars – Korean and Vietnam – where he earned many honors including the Bronze Star. Following retirement from military service Jim began his second career as owner of the Phillips 66 station in downtown Springfield, which he and Sue operated for 18 years. Jim and Sue were married 62 years and from this union enjoyed 4 sons and 1 daughter. Jim “PA” was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, James Kermit “JK”, his oldest grandson, Jeffery Kevin “JK”, his parents, his brothers David, Robert and Richard, and sister Mildred. Jim is survived by his wife Sue, children Jeffery, Stephen, Jason, and Tressa, their spouses, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his sisters, Josephine, Mary, Marjory and Ester. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 26 from 6-8pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home-East with funeral services on Saturday September 27 at 9:30am, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens following the service with full military honors. Donations to the St. Jude Foundation will be appreciated in lieu of flowers.
