Jane Geerlings, age 85, moved to heaven on September 4, 2014. She was born to Jack and Pansy Barton on March 1, 1929, in Mountain Grove, Mo. In 1936 she contracted osteomyelitis, which caused numerous physical challenges and required her to walk on crutches until 2010, when she exchanged them for a walker and a wheelchair. Her disability didn’t slow her down; she graduated valedictorian from Mountain Grove High School in 1947. She then attended SMS for two years and was a member of Alpha Sigma Alpha. After additional hospitalizations, she enrolled at the University of Missouri where she was president of the BSU and graduated with an accounting degree in 1954. She then worked for Tri-County gas in Coffeyville, Kansas unril 1955 when shje married George Geerlings, whom she had met at MU. After graduation they moved to Springfield, MO. where she worked a variety of jobs from home until she started selling real estate in the 1970’s. She was activce in church work, teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir or praise team, teaching V.B.S. and doing whatever else was needed. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, George, and her son, Bart. She is survived by her son, Jack Geerlings (Kathy Stever) of Ferndale, MI.; daughter, Ann Smith (Todd) of Willow Park, Texas; daughter-in-law, Leasa Geerlings of Olathe, KS.; grandchildren, Clark and Beth Geerlings, Matt and Jenny Smith, Grant Geerlings; and sister, Jacqueline Brixey of Little Rock, AR. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00pm tonight and a brief graveside service will be at 10:00am Saturday, September 6, at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
