Jeffrey “Jeff” Allen Scott, age 61, passed peacefully away on January 1, 2025, at his home in Springfield. He departed this life in the loving arms of his wife and son. The sorrow of Jeff’s absence is made a bit more tolerable by the legacy of love and laughter he leaves behind.

Jeff was born to Edward and Ellene (Capaul) Scott on April 17, 1963, in Mountain Home, Idaho. He was raised on the north side of Springfield and attended Hillcrest High School. During high school, Jeff met Lisa Freeman when the two of them were working at Long John Silver’s. Little did he know that the two of them would once again cross paths after high school and would eventually seal their fate with a kiss. At the age of twenty, Jeff and Lisa were united in marriage on February 24, 1984, at her mother’s home in Springfield. From that day forward, Jeff placed Lisa on a pedestal where she remained for the next 40 years. In Lisa’s words, “I have been the most blessed woman in the world being married to Jeff.” Jeff and Lisa were blessed with one son, Chris.

After getting married, Jeff worked with his brother at an autobody shop in Springfield. He remained at the autobody shop until his best friend, Scott, hired him to help frame houses. It was during that time that Jeff discovered his passion for home construction and landscaping. In 1989, Jeff and Lisa relocated to Everton, Missouri, where he worked for the next ten years as a self-employed drywall finisher. In 1999, Jeff and Lisa moved back to Springfield after he accepted a job with ZARCON. While at ZARCON, Jeff mastered his craft as a drywall finisher and developed a reputation for being one of the best drywall specialists in southwest Missouri. On April 4, 2011, Jeff accepted a position with Nabholz Construction in Springfield. In his new role at Nabholz, Jeff continued to perfect his skills as a drywall specialist. Given his dedication, strong work ethic, and superior construction skills, Jeff was promoted to a Lead Craftsman within the company. Jeff loved his job at Nabholz and was employed there at the time of his passing.

Even though Jeff worked a lot of hours, he still found time to pursue his hobbies and interests. Fewer things brought him more joy than fishing from his 20’ Bentley pontoon boat, especially with his son, Chris. The two of them spent countless hours on Table Rock and Stockton lakes fishing for bass, spoonbill, and trout. Jeff especially enjoyed the sport of night fishing. He also took great pride in tying his own flies and making his own lures. Lisa frequently joked that “I was Jeff’s second love and fishing was his first.”

For many years, Jeff was a NASCAR enthusiast. He and Lisa enjoyed several racing events at the Talladega Superspeedway and the Kansas Speedway. Jeff’s favorite driver was, without a doubt, Dale Jarrett!

His other interests included line dancing with Lisa, collecting and crafting arrowheads, target shooting, watching fishing shows on television, and listening to music, especially classic rock, and country music. He was particularly fond of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bon Jovi, Kansas, Rascal Flatts, and Trace Adkins. Jeff also had a huge appetite for cracker burgers with mashed potatoes and brown gravy (although he covered his cracker burgers with ketchup instead of gravy). Lisa has always been grateful to Jeff’s mom for sharing her famous cracker burger recipe.

While Jeff enjoyed many hobbies and pastimes, nothing brought him more fulfillment than coaching his son’s baseball teams. From tee-ball to junior high ball, Jeff loved his time on the field with Chris and working in the concession stand with Lisa. Those summer memories are among the family’s most treasured.

Jeff will be remembered as a tender-hearted man who loved as hard as he worked. He loved his family beyond measure and he worked to meet their every need. He will be deeply missed by those whose life he touched.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ellene Scott. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lisa Scott; son, Chris and his significant other, Sarah; three grandchildren: Archer, Finley, and Jason; sister, Susan Shippy; brother, Craig Scott; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025, 1:00 pm, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield. Jeff will be laid to rest at Liberty Cemetery located near Fellows Lake in Greene County. There will be a formal procession from the funeral home to the cemetery.
