Jeremy R Bass, age 49, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away at Mercy Hospital on July 10, 2023, after a courageous battle against cancer. Jeremy was born the only child to Mike Bass and Karlene Matthews on May 4, 1974. He was raised in Springfield and graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1992. He remained very close friends with many people he met during his school years. Jeremy also spent most of his time growing up with his Aunt Mary in her home and bar in Pleasant Hope. It was there that he made several lifelong friends from the area, learned how to run a pool table at a young age, got the nickname Punk, and picked up his love for all types of music while listening to the jukebox. Jeremy was employed by the City of Springfield as a Land Use Inspector where he enjoyed working until his body no longer allowed that to happen. He had numerous other jobs including working in the Real Estate Department at the O’Reilly Auto Parts Corporate Office where he became close friends with people not only in the office, but also across the nation. He also worked at Herrman Lumber Company where he made many close friends and remained in touch with them until his time of passing. Jeremy and his wife Stacey shared 26 years together and were blessed with two daughters, Riley Moore (Sam) and Taylor Bargas (Ethan). Riley and Sam have also blessed the couple with one granddaughter, Karly, and one grandson who will be due in August, along with two young adults they also called their “kids” Coley Bush and her brother Josh Bush.
Jeremy and Stacey loved motorcycle riding, traveling, going to concerts, and spending time together. Jeremy’s love for motorcycles started at a very young age because of his Uncle Wil who held a special place in Jeremy’s heart. He took several trips to Sturgis with Stacey and with several friends that were his family. The ride that he was most proud of was riding the Bear Tooth Highway in Montana and Wyoming, alongside a couple of friends that he called his brothers. Jeremy didn’t let a nice weekend go by without going for a ride. There are so many close friends and memories made of them riding together and he cherished each one. Jeremy also loved anything to do with guns, a good hand-made cigar, ice cream (of any kind), fishing, hunting, golfing, NASCAR, St. Louis Cardinals baseball, and Dallas Cowboys football. One of the greatest times in his life was being able to attend a Dallas Cowboys game on Thanksgiving Day in 2022
Jeremy was a member of the Pleasant Hope Lodge #467 where he served as Past Master of the Lodge in 2009. He was a past member of the Abou Ben Adhem Shrine, a past member of The Eastern Star, and he was most proud of being the Rainbow dad for his daughter’s Masonic Rainbow Assembly when they were young. We will always remember Jeremy for his kindness, friendship, and addicting laugh.
Jeremy was proceeded in death by his father, Mike “Mikey” Bass along with several aunts, uncles, and grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Stacey; two daughters, Taylor and Riley; granddaughter, Karly; sons-in-law, Ethan and Sam; mother, Karlene Matthews; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Regena Sullivan; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jason and Lorrie Gilchrist. He will be missed by cherished cousins, Sarah (Sissy) Bussard, Chuck Bench, and Bobby Pinegar; all of his Colorado family members; the Strannigan Clan family members; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends from across the nation. He will also missed by his pet sidekicks, Big Boy and Koda.
During Jeremy’s illness, he spent time at the Hope Lodge in St Louis where they took wonderful care of him. Any contributions can be made to The American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in St. Louis MO.
The family will be holding a Celebration of Life service for Jeremy at a later date. The time and place of Jeremy’s service will be announced on Facebook.
