Jerry George Sutherland of Springfield passed away on July 28, 2018, at the age of 81, after a battle with cancer. Jerry was born February 22, 1937, in Fair Grove, Missouri, to Tracy & Bula Sutherland, their youngest of five children. Jerry married Celia Miller on June 30, 1962. To this union three daughters were born, twins Tracy and Trudy, and Lori. Jerry’s early career was at the Zenith plant where he worked for over 23 years. He worked in his later years as a painter, officially “retiring” last year at the age of 80. Jerry had a servant’s heart and will be remembered for the many kindnesses to others as a friend and neighbor. Jerry was preceded in death by parents Tracy and Bula Sutherland, sisters Jenny and Bertha, and daughter Tracy Jewell. He is survived by his wife Celia; daughters Trudy Powell and husband Mark, Springfield; and Lori Vaughn and husband Michael, Springfield; son- and daughter-in-law Chris & Diane Jewell, Fair Grove; grandchildren Tyler Jewell; Megan Henry and husband Tyler; Caitlin McHaffie and husband Wyatt; Haley, Kami, and Braden Powell; Sophia and Natalie Vaughn; and great-granddaughter Everly Henry. Jerry is also survived by his sister Ella Rogers of Deer Creek, IL, and his brother Harvey Sutherland and wife Glenola of Lamar; brother- and sister-in-law Joe and Glenda Miller, Springfield; sister- and brother-in-law Barry and Mary Jane Jaynes, Springfield; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and treasured friends. Jerry’s trust was in the Lord Jesus, his Savior. He was a member of Mount Comfort Church, and memorial contributions can be made to Mount Comfort Church Building Fund or Missions Fund.
