Joan Claudis (Baker) Crocker, 93, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on September 10, 2024, at Cedarhurst Senior Living. Joan was born to Bill and Velva (Dysart) Baker on October 20, 1930, in Springfield, Missouri. She was raised in Springfield and graduated from Springfield High School in 1948. Joan was united in marriage to Darrell Lee Crocker on February 5, 1950, in Springfield, Missouri. Joan and Lee shared 58 years of marriage before Lee’s passing on February 9, 2008. The couple was blessed with two children: Darrell and Randy.
Joan partnered in The Image, a ladies’ apparel store, and later owned a Merle Norman store. When not working, she had many interests and pastimes including cooking, sewing, gardening, bird watching, and traveling with Lee. Nothing, however, brought her more fulfillment than serving her church in the nursery, choir, children’s classes, young lady’s studies, and women’s missions. Joan will be remembered for her famous sugar cookies and angel food cakes with butter cream icing and sprinkles. She was often described as a sweet lady with a ready smile and a welcoming hug.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Crocker; son, Randy Crocker; and grandson, Chuck Scearce. She is survived by her sister, Wanda Tyson (Norm Roelfs); sister-in-law, Mary Hume Crocker; son, Darrell Crocker (Becky); daughter-in-law, Cheryl Crocker; grandchildren: Chris Crocker (Megan), Michael Crocker (Kai-Li), Cullen Crocker (Amy), Jennifer Wortman (Mark), Kendall Bennett (Todd); seven great-grandchildren; cousins, nieces, nephews; and a host of friends and neighbors.
A visitation and funeral for Joan will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at National Heights Baptist Church in Springfield, Missouri. Visitation from 1:00-2:00 pm and funeral service at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Mount Comfort cemetery located in Springfield, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in Joan’s memory to the charity of your choice.
Arrangements are under the compassionate direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home North in Springfield, Missouri.
