Joel Thomas Hoggard passed away August 19, 2021 in Everton, MO. There will be a service at Paris Springs United Methodist Church on August 25, 2021.
Joel went by J.T., Tom or Tommy to friend’ s and family. He was born September 16, 1943 to William Thomas Hoggard and Ella Katherine (Coberly) Hoggard.
In his youth Tom enjoyed football and baseball. He graduated from Miller High School.
Tom joined the U. S. Navy June 21, 1962. He served 4 years, 1 month, 29 days as an aircraft jet servicer, mostly in California and was honorably discharged August 19, 1966. He earned the Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal.
On New Years day 1965 he met the love of his life Peggy Flaherty waitressing in Carthage, MO and told his friends he was going to marry that girl. They were married on March 15, 1965.
Tom worked as a milkman for Foremost Dairy in Springfield from 1966-1967. He began working for Frisco Railroad in 1967 and trained to become an engineer, and would later drive trains for the Burlington Northern Railroad. He also worked a dairy farm near Halltown, MO for some time with his Parents .
Tom and Peggy moved to Thompson, ND in 1985. They moved to Trinidad, CO in 1994. In 2003 Tom retired from the railroad and they moved to Buxton, ND, making periodic trips back to Missouri staying with family. They lived there until the fall of 2020 when they returned to Everton, MO.
Tom loved horses and enjoyed endurance riding. It was a hobby he enjoyed most of his life. Tom was a godly man who loved the lord Jesus Christ and would openly share his faith. He was kind to everyone he met and always looked to find the good in every person. He was especially proud of his family and loved playing with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He and Peggy liked to attend their school and extracurricular events, music concerts, and sporting events.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Robert Hoggard. He is survived by his wife Peggy, a brother Chuck Hoggard, a sister Katy Scheer, and children, Nick (Tabby) Hoggard, Rhonda (Brian) Gaarder, and Robert (Tina) Hoggard, 14 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. He was very close to his sisters-in-law Ruby (Richard) Wallace and Mary (John) Smith. His family also includes many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am – 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Paris Springs Methodist Church, with Funeral Services beginning at 11:00 a.m. after visitation. Burial will be at 1:00 p.m. at Missouri Veterans Cemetery.
