John Carl (JC) Goodin peacefully passed at home on April 26, 2023, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born in Littlefield, Texas on May 18, 1940, and was 82 years old.
JC was an overachiever. He worked hard both at home and in his career. JC loved hiking and camping and had a goal to climb all the Colorado Fourteeners with his good friend Jim Dailey and son-in-law Tim Giddens. JC finished the Boston, Pikes Peak, Chicago and Marine Corp marathons, just to name a few. He logged hours scuba diving and driving his big blue tractor on “the point”. On the ski slopes of Colorado, you could always pick out JC because he was the guy holding the big Super 8 camera on his shoulder to capture the memories being made for his family and friends.
JC shared his love for Table Rock Lake with his family and was the best, most patient, “Grandpaw”. He and his good friend Bob Howell spent hundreds, if not thousands, of hours towing the grandkids behind his “big red boat” or spotting on the back of a Sea Doo. The grandkids got on, fell off, got on, fell off, one of many water toys (Hot Dog, Flat Stanley), skies or wakeboards. But Grandpaw and Grandpa Bob kept going and never tired of seeing us all enjoy the lake.
JC loved his family and is survived by his wife of 59 years, Gwen Goodin. JC and Gwen have two daughters, Sherri Giddens and Ladona Jill Goodin, Son-in-law Tim Giddens and five grandchildren, Julia Blanchard, JC Giddens, Laney Blanchard, Jacob Giddens and Jill Giddens (2021). He is also survived by his sister Ella Wegscheid and cousin Paulette Mitchell. And we’d be remiss not to mention Herki, his loyal dog.
JC was healthy and fit until Alzheimer’s took him away too soon. He left a lasting love in our hearts, and we are blessed with so many happy memories. We will miss his quirky sayings and unique humor…. “Hey dad? Does your face hurt??” Until we meet again…thank you for being the best. We love you so much!
The family will have a private celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, donations in JC’s honor may be sent to the Jill Giddens Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o Miriam School, 501 Bacon Ave, St. Louis, MO 63119.
