I had thought of JD just a few days ago, maybe on the day he died. JD and I are cousins. My Granny Redfearn was a Julian. JD always called me 'cuz' and since we were the same age and went to Willard High School together he kept me up on the latest on everyone. I will miss him and his phone calls.

John was a true hero to me one January day in 1980 when Springfield got pounded with 18 inches of snow in just a few hours. Debbie and I were sharing an apartment in south Springfield, and of course, we didn't have groceries (I'm not even sure I listened to forecasts at age 20). John drove across town when only the National Guard was supposed to be on the road, picked us up, took us to the grocery store, then carried in our sacks of provisions. I've never forgotten how good and cared for I felt the days after every time I opened the fridge and ate a thing we would not have had if John had not been willing to get out in awful weather and take us grocery shopping.

I worked with John at Associated Grocers. He was a good guy and my friend. My condolences to all of his family.

John (and Betty) was a great friend to mom and dad. We lived by them when I was young and after we moved John was always available to help with our car projects. I looked forward to Saturdays as he let me help with his Porsche kit car build and he taught me a lot. John loaned us his new car so we could take a trip to Washington DC with grandma Jenkins and his camper so we could go to Yellowstone, two trips i will always remember. John was a prankster, funny and a lot of fun to be around. Everytime i see an orange van or i use my universal sockets i will think of John. Our family is lucky to have known him and thank you for sharing him with us.

Uncle JD was a good guy. When we got married money was tight and he was always good about helping us with repairs on our cars, knew exactly what needed to be done. He was also a great grill master, loved going to he and Aunt Bet’s for barbecue’s. Sending love and hugs to “his girls”.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.
