With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John D. Elliott. Reverend, patriarch, devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, on June 4, 1945, John was a man of unwavering faith. He grew up at the Evangelical Children’s Home where he resided from age 4 to 17.
After marrying his beloved Brenda on June 30, 1967, at the Pentecostal Church of God in Valley Park, Missouri, John’s life was enriched by their shared adventures and three beautiful children. He was a devoted member of the Nazarene Church for many years. He loved reading his Bible and sharing his faith with others. His passion for spreading the word of God led him to a period of service as a minister and a lifelong dedication to studying the Scriptures.
John enjoyed spending time with his family making memories, sharing stories, and bonding over their shared love of Christ. His quick wit, warm heart, and irresistible sense of humor touched all who encountered him, with his signature gestures of generosity, offering Red Bird mint candy and bubble gum, forever etched in the memories of those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Elliott and Ella Pauline (Gilmore) Moore, and his siblings, brothers: Bart, Ray, Bill, and his sister, Judy.
John is survived by his wife, Brenda Elliott of 57 years, and his three children and their spouses, Jonathan and (Renae) Elliott, Becky and (Patrick) Garcia, and Theresa Elliott and (Troy Coin); eight grandchildren and their spouses Tori Elliott, Shane Elliott, Silas and (Maddie) Elliott, Nick and (Bethany) Garcia, Emily and (Matthew) Mills, Brook and (Isaac) Sherwood, Jordan Hodges, and Jenna and (Christopher) Ramsey; eleven great-grandchildren, numerous nephews and nieces, other family members and friends.
In honor of his life and legacy, funeral services and ceremonies are scheduled to take place on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North. A visitation will be held at 1:00 pm, followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00 pm, and concluding with a Graveside Service at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
As we bid farewell to John on earth, we celebrate his spirit, his laughter, and his enduring love that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He has fought the good fight, he has finished the race and kept the faith! (2 Timothy 4:7) He will be missed here … until we meet again in the presence of our Savior.
