John Martin Burke I, age 88, went to meet Jesus his Savior on May 30, 2014.
He grew up on a farm in Indiana and developed a love of the outdoors that included hunting and fishing which he enjoyed throughout his life. The Ozarks were an ideal place for his residence after he met a Springfield, Missouri girl while he was stationed here during World War II. He was married to Hettie Lou (Parsons) Burke for 65 years and together they raised a family with high Christian values. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
He served as a volunteer Deputy in the Greene County Sheriff’s Department.
He was happy when Missouri enacted right-to-carry and he qualified at age 80. He was knowledgeable about guns and built several rifles and customized many guns. He enjoyed reading about the Civil War and studying the battle strategies.
Survivors include daughter Rebecca Vice or Spotsylvania, Virginia; son John M. Burke II and wife am of Plano, Texas; and granddaughter Jennifer Mark and husband Steven of Canton, Georgia; sisters Betty Meade of Carrollton, Georgia and Clotine Conrad of Terre Haute, Indiana and brother Fred Elmore of Terre Haute, Indiana.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home North, with graveside services at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 2, 2014 in White Chapel Memorial Gardens. No viewing or visitation is planned.
