John was born and raised in Wichita Falls, Texas. He graduated from Hirschi High School and attended Midwestern University before enlisting in the Texas National Guard. After returning from basic training he married his high school sweetheart, Karen. They both worked at Sprague Electric Company for a couple of years then he went to work as a Firefighter for the City of Wichita Falls. He worked in the landscaping business as a sideline. He always had more than one job! Later he went to work for The Texas Pipeline Company and the family transferred to Snyder, Texas for several years before moving to Springfield, MO in 1980. John built a home near Fordland, MO, on land purchased from Karen’s grandparents. He did a lot of work himself and also worked in heating and air conditioning and construction. He built a shop on the land and starting building weight equipment. This later evolved into a store & supplement business. John & Karen raised their family there and after both girls graduated high school, they sold the farm and moved into Springfield.
John was a member of the Union Hill Church of Christ. He served as a deacon at both Sunset and Brookline Churches of Christ. He was involved in church planting and building campaigns in Mexico.
Building churches in Mexico was his passion and calling. He was a generous and loving person who took wonderful care of his family. He loved his hot rods and traveling to the mountains and taking cruises. He also loved making trips to Florida to visit Tori.
The family wishes to extend thanks to Cedarhurst Memory Care and Seasons Hopsice for their wonderful care of John and his family.
