John “Johnny” Robert Gillmore, age 72, of Pleasant Hope, passed away at his home on November 9, 2023. Johnny was born to Robert and Goldie (Farmer) Gillmore on December 11, 1950, in Springfield, Missouri. He was united in marriage to Jean Ellen Rogers on November 26, 1969. The couple was blessed with two children, John and Donald.

For more than twenty years, Johnny was employed with the City of Springfield Public Works Department. In 1992, he retired from Public Works as a maintenance foreman. While Johnny had many hobbies and interests, his greatest passion was restoring and owning classic Chevys. He enjoyed listening to country music, especially Vern Gosdin, “The Voice” of country music. Johnny will be remembered as a down-to-earth man who loved his family and friends beyond measure. He never met a stranger, he was a great listener, and he cared genuinely about the people in his life. In the words of a family member, “If you were one of the lucky people who knew him, you already knew this.” Johnny will be deeply missed by the many people who knew and loved him.

Johnny Gillmore was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Goldie Gillmore; son, John Gillmore, Jr.; brother, Jiles Gillmore; brother, Gary Gillmore; and brothers-in-law, Donnie Rogers and Jack Watson. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean Gillmore; son, Donald Gillmore; brother, Lloyd Gillmore and his wife, Glenda; brother, Bobby Gillmore; and sister, Clara Bell.

A graveside service for John “Johnny” Robert Gillmore will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, 1:00 pm, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Springfield.
