Joseph Guy Barker, 93 of Bolivar died June 3, 2017 at Citizens Memorial Health Care Facility. He was born July 8, 1923 in Goodson, Missouri to Arthur and Ora May Brooks Barker. He married Vieta Elizabeth Tillman on January 9, 1946, and to this union four sons were born.

Guy proudly served in the Army Air Corp during World War II, with the 742nd Air Material Squadron in Central Europe, and received an honorable discharge.

Guy was a plumber by trade in Independence, MO, co-owned the Hill and Barker Cabinet Shop, owned and operated a dairy farm in SW Missouri, and his final career was a foreman, pipefitter/plumber in Water Treatment Plants around the Port Aransas TX area. He and Vieta loved to fish and spent many winters fishing in the Gulf Waters of Texas.

He was preceded in death by his wife Vieta, his parents, 4 brothers, Lovell, Tommy, Ernest and Dwight; and 3 sisters, Trevia, Nellie and Mildred.

He is survived by four sons, Gary and Jan Barker of Albany; Bill and Diane Barker of Blue Springs; Rex and Brenda Barker, Osceola; and Larry Barker, Osceola; 8 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and 1 great, great granddaughter; 1 sister, Nancy and Mike Stephens, Bolivar; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 7, 10-12 at Pitts Chapel, Bolivar with a graveside service to follow at 2:00 pm. Burial in Barren Creek Cemetery with military rites and Brother Mike Bruce officiating. The family wishes to thank Citizens Memorial Health Care Facility and CMHC Hospice for his care.
