Judy Ann Hicks, 75, of Springfield, MO went to her heavenly home on December 24, 2023 after a decade long battle with Lewy Body Dementia.
Judy was born on July 21, 1948 to Floyd (Jack) West and Beulah Beezley West in Springfield. She attended Hillcrest High School (class of 1966) where she played tennis and was part of the Highlanders Drum and Bugle Corps. After graduation, Judy attended Draughon Business College in Springfield. Judy met Dale Hicks during her time at Hillcrest and they went on their first date on October 25, 1963. The two were married on January 18, 1969 at Hamlin Baptist Church. Dale and Judy have two children, David Christopher Hicks and Kelly Ann Percival.
Judy performed general office functions for several businesses in Springfield during her career. She and good friend Susie Morgan decided they were ready for a change of pace, so they began working together in various part-time pursuits, even opening their own business for a few years. They continued to work together until Judy was no longer able to do so.
Judy was a natural athlete and loved to compete, especially on the tennis court and softball field. She spent many years competing herself, and then enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren in their various sports and extracurricular activities. Her family brought her tremendous joy, especially her beloved grandchildren!
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Dale’s parents, Norman and Bernice Hicks, and a nephew, Steven McIntosh.
Judy is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years, Dale; their son David and his wife Angie, their daughter Kelly Percival and her husband Mark; five grandchildren, Jessica and Jed Hicks and Grace, Natalie and Molly Percival, all of Springfield. She is also survived by her brother, Ray West and his wife Marilyn, and her sister-in-law Joyce McIntosh, and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Our family is grateful for the support system we have had during Judy’s illness. It has been a difficult journey and the prayers, words of encouragement and help along the way have been such a blessing! We would like to thank Paula and Victoria at Sutton Senior Care and Linda and Emily with Cox Hospice for all they have done to support Judy. We would also like to thank Adina and Dana at Close to Paradise Senior Care for their gentle care during the last several months of Judy’s life.
A visitation will be held Friday, December 29, 2023 at Hamlin Baptist Church from 11:00am-1:00pm, with the funeral service immediately following at 1:00pm. Burial will be Saturday, December 30 at 10:00am at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund at Hamlin Baptist Church, where Judy was a long time member.
