Kenneth Eugene Coffey, 72, of Bolivar, passed away on Monday, May 22nd, 2023, at Joplin Mercy Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 8, 1951, in Weaubleau, MO, to Herman “Dick” Leonard and Iva Pauline (Murray) Coffey. Kenny graduated from Bolivar High School in 1970. After high school he enlisted in the Army National Guard Reserves. Shortly after, Kenny was united in marriage on July 31, 1970, to Sharon Sue Kirk with whom he was happily married to for almost 53 years at the time of his passing.
Kenny was a lifelong resident of Bolivar and began his career working in the carpet installation business for D and C Distributors just after high school. He continued to do this for the next 35 years with Superior Floor and Tile and Scharnhorst Flooring. After leaving the flooring industry, he became a small business owner, opening May’s Station and Grill where he enjoyed working with his customers for the next 16 years. His most recent employment was working for the City of Bolivar where he worked at the Bolivar Golf Club.
Kenny’s pride and joy was his family. Kenny and Sharon had two kids, daughter, Christy and son, Kelly, and three grandkids, Tyannah, Keegan and Kyler. He especially loved spending time with his grandkids whether it be attending their sports games, going fishing or just being with them.
Most recently Kenny enjoyed fishing with his buddy. Skunk, or golfing with his other buddy, Rick. He had his Saturday morning breakfast date and Sunday morning games with his family and friends. He also spent time as a member and volunteer fish fryer at the American Legion Post 138.
Kenny is survived by his wife Sharon; children, Christy (Keith) Brown, Kelly (Britni) Coffey; grandchildren, Tyannah Brown, Keegan and Kyler Coffey; siblings, Winnie Ball, Richard Coffey, Paul (Ruth) Coffey, Teressa (Albert) Cornell; sisters-in-law, Lois Coffey, Beverly Coffey, Judy (Dan) Carman, Shirley Hill, Deanna (Matt) Matthews, Debbie (Steve) Breesawitz, Judy (Dennis) Kirklin; brothers-in-law, Wink Ahart, Frank Steely; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law Ella Obert; brothers, Jim Coffey, Herman Coffey Jr, Dan Coffey; sisters, Elizabeth Kay Coffey, Donna Ahart, Patsy Steely, Connie Brown; sisters-in-law, Sharon Coffey; brothers-in-law, Al Sullivan, Wilburn Ball, John Brown, and David Hill Sr.
A visitation for Kenny will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2023, at Pitts Chapel in Bolivar, MO. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Pitts Chapel. Interment will take place at Enon Cemetery near Wishart, MO.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kenny’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
