Larry Dean McKinnis 82, Springfield, MO. passed away March 12, 2022, in his home, after a sudden illness. He was born in Tiff City, MO. on June 6, 1939, to Thomas and Bessie (Jones) McKinnis. Larry was a retired United States Army veteran, who honorably served his country at many different Army Bases where ever he was stationed.
Larry was a member of The Abou Ben Adhem Shrine and the AMVETS, #178, in Brighton, MO. He also served on the Honor Guard Detail for Military Rites, and was involved in many activities at the AMVETS club. Before his wife, Irene passed away, they would often attend the dances at the AMVETS club. Larry loved older country music and playing shuffleboard and collecting military memorabilia. He also loved fishing, football, especially the Kansas City Chiefs, In his later years, Larry enjoyed his daily BLT and beer at The Monkey Bar, which was near his home.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Irene McKinnis, and his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his son: Rick McKinnis, step-grand-daughter: Angie Cheyenne Cloud, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, with burial to follow, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Wednesday evening March 16, 2022, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
